About the Solar Eclipse
A total solar eclipse is one of the rarest and most astonishing phenomena in nature. In this transient moment, the Moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, its silhouette perfectly obscuring the Sun’s face. And in that ethereal darkness, something remarkable occurs: the Sun’s corona - flares into view, forming a shimmering, ghostly crown around the blackened disc. Then, as the Moon moves on, sunlight pierces through its valleys in flashes known as Baily’s Beads, followed by the sudden blaze of the Diamond Ring effect, signalling the end of totality.
It's an extraordinary spectacle. As totality nears, observers will experience a series of odd effects: temperatures begin to drop; shadows sharpen and stretch in strange directions; birds and other wildlife, confused by this interruption of nature’s usual cycle, quieten their chirps and chatter. The sky transforms, washing over with shades ranging from silvery lavender and deep indigo to a fiery crimson glow on some occasions, especially when the eclipse occurs low in the sky.
On August 12th, 2026, the heavens will stage such a spectacle over the shores of Mallorca. To celebrate this special event, Miku Retreats brings you the Solar Eclipse Holistic Retreat. Held in the majestic former monastery of Son Rullan, this once in a life-time retreat will blend healing treatments, educational workshops, and one of nature’s greatest shows, all set against a backdrop of awe-inspiring beauty.
From our vantage point at Son Rullan, the eclipse will begin its partial phase at 7:38 PM local time, with the Sun at 12° above the horizon. Totality will occur at approximately 8:30 PM, with the Sun now hovering at a mere 2.5°, casting an otherworldly glow across the land for just over 90 seconds. As the eclipse wanes, a crescent Sun will emerge, gliding slowly toward the horizon and setting at 8:50 PM, with the partial eclipse still in motion.
What makes these alignments so special is the sheer precision. The Moon, though vastly smaller, is close enough to Earth that it appears to exactly cover the much larger Sun. Some believe this to be by divine design; others consider it an exquisite accident of celestial geometry. Whatever your philosophy, an eclipse experience can generate some unexpected feelings. For some, it sparks pure exhilaration. For others, it brings a sense of stillness, of something sacred and profound. The Sun, source of all energy and life, momentarily dimmed. The gentle Moon, our constant companion and purveyor of dreams, displaying its own, quiet power. In this brief, but memorable encounter, we are reminded of the grand interconnectedness of all things.
And as if that weren’t enough, the cosmos offers a final gift on this momentous night: the peak of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower. Between nightfall and dawn, under ideal conditions and with the Moon now set, the sky may rain many dozens of meteors - also known as shooting stars - per hour, providing a celestial flourish to a night already rich in wonder.

With many years experience and deep study in Japanese Integrated Medicine, she is one of only a handful of people worldwide to hold a the rare and prestigious Teacher’s Licence in this powerful naturopathic integrative medicine — a remarkable honour awarded by her Master, Dr Chris Roworth (direct student of Japan’s last ninja, Dr Hatsumi Masaaki).
Having been fascinated by the human body throughout her childhood, she was eventually brought to the medicine many years ago through her own illness: embarking on an incredible journey of self healing and on an academic journey still alive, even today. Where Western Medicine failed her, Japanese Integrated Medicine cured her. Having trained in a comprehensive range of disciplines, Kimmy brings a rich, embodied understanding of the human system. Sara Dobák - Going Cosmic (Astrotourism)
As an experienced tourism professional specialising in responsible travel, Sara is passionate about promoting the health benefits of the natural night-time environment, while raising awareness of the harmful effects of light pollution on both the natural world and human well-being.
Drawn to the magic and mystery of the Universe from an early age, Sara rediscovered the nocturnal wonders of our own planet during her first guided night-time walk, in collaboration with Møn & Nyord Dark Sky Park in Denmark. With noctourism emerging as one of 2025’s leading travel trends, she now draws on the latest research in the field to demonstrate how engaging with nature after dark fosters a unique form of mindfulness, promotes inner calm, and may even reduce cortisol levels.
Sara has previously worked with the British Astronomical Association, and is currently a contributor to the Kielder Observatory Focus Group and an official Advocate for DarkSky International, supporting initiatives to enhance dark sky environments.
Her 20-year career in tourism, intertwined with a lifelong passion for the cosmos, also inspired the creation of Going Cosmic - an online platform where she writes on a multitude of astrotourism-related subjects. Her most recent total eclipse experience took her to Texas and New Mexico, USA, where she also visited several observatories, planetaria and Virgin Galactic’s Spaceport. Her favourite motto is "Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground."
